Online Art

 For Maniakalani today we are talking about this thing called Summer Learning Journey. It is a fun learning thing to do over your summer break. It is a 6 week task and is really enjoyable. I did this last year and it is very fun and is not that hard. All you need to be able to do this is 1. A Device, 2. A Blog, 3. You must have done cyber smart before. For one of the pre tasks we got to go on this really fun app called Art Colouring Book. It is were you see a whole lot of images you can then click on one and make your own piece of art. Here is an example I made.

 For Manaikalani we are learning about different types of Media and what is in each type. In Print Media we did things like News Paper, Magazines. For Broadcasting Media we did things like the Radio and The News. For Online Media we did things like Twitter and Tik Tok. In my group there was My best friend's Mayci and Selena. Smart Relationships

 In cyber smart we have been learning about how to make quality blog posts and comments. We are learning this to be safe online and be a kind and caring person online.

My learning went pretty well and it was understandable. At some times it did get tricky but it became easier again.

I am Cyber smart but my question is are you Cyber smart?

Surf to Turf

The Actual Day

On Wednesday the 28th of October we did a challenge called Surf to Turf. It is an activity were you run 5.1k then partake in 4 activities, 1 minute Plank, Commando crawl, 50 Sit up and a tire roll. Once you completed the tasks you had to fun to the finish line where the teacher gave you a coca cola juicie. When we had all completed the race and finished our juicies A fire truck was waiting for us at the end of the driveway. The firemen attached ropes then we lined up. We had to pull the fire truck up a driveway. Then the firemen got the hose and started spraying us down. Once we had, had enough of the water we went collected our bags and got some hot dogs from the BCN. We had a lot of fun.

But would we have been able to do all this stuff without training. Of course not. We had 3, 7-8 am training's then got a amazing breakfast at the BCN (Belfast Community Network). We had 6, 3-4 pm training's where for 2 weeks one of the teachers made us an afternoon tea. We also 3, 2-3 pm training's. We had training's 2 times a week, one on Tuesday which was the 7-8 and 2-3. Then we had training on Thursday which was 3-4. 

With us doing so much training and having to work so hard on the day we ALL obviously had sore muscles.

I have just finished reading your book Crash as part of our group literacy circle. I really enjoyed it and I give it a 5 out of 5 star rating.

I like the way that each chapter flickers by one chapter being about the crash and one being about what life is like at home.

This made me wonder what part of NZ this book is made from. It also made me wonder how long it took you to complete the whole book.

Maybe next time you could describe what the car and the characters looked like.

3 Brothers & The Polar Bear Retell

 Once in a cold icy land, where seals hunted fish, polar bears hunted seals and man hunted polar bears. Sometimes it was the other way around and the polar bears hunted the humans. They can hear the ice cracking.

 On this land there also lived three brothers. The first brother called Bob was a super skinny guy with short black hair, long gross black beard, a blue top and some sweatpants.

The second brother called Nick was a chubby guy with long ginger hair, a short ginger beard, a pink top and some black shorts.

The Third and final brother called John was a good size, had short blond hair, a long blonde beard, a Gray top and some oversized pants.

Once they had finished school they decide on a job.

Bob chose to learn about skeletons, bones and how to piece them back together, he is called a bone expert. Nick chose to study about how to conjure blood, flesh and fur. He became a corpse maker.

John chose to study how to bring life back to the dead. He became a life giver. 

Soon when they had finished they were walking back to their ice palace and came across a pile of bones. Bob decided to piece the skeleton together piece by piece. He then discovered it was a polar bear. He went back to where his brothers were standing and said, “it is a polar bear.” Then Nick went out on the ice and gave it flesh by pouring a magical mixture on it. He then yelled, “IT IS JERRY!”

 Then Bob and John came running on the ice. All they could hear was crying, all they could see was Nick hugging a dead polar bear. Bob and John looked at each other and nodded their heads. 

John then walks over to the dead polar bear and told Nick to go back to Bob. He then bought the polar bear back to life. Nick walked up to John still sobbing and said, “thank you.” Bob then gives Nick a leash for Jerry and they walk home together.

When they arrive back in the village they get straight to work they have to make an igloo as big as an elephant for Jerry. Jerry soon settled in.  Jerry had forgotten how to be a pet so training came along.

 This first thing they taught him was how to play games like fetch and catch. They then taught him some things fun like dancing and talking and singing. Once he was fully tamed and very friendly they took him into the village. Everyone was screaming as loud as thunder and running as fast as cheetahs. 

They then went home and went to sleep in their nice big igloo house. They then lived happily ever after. The end

For Maths we are learning long division. We had to complete 15 and then make 5 by yourself. Do you know how to do long division? Let me know what answers you got and I will reply the correct answers.

Literacy Circle Week 4

 At school I am reading the book Crash. It is about a down syndrome boy called Poddy. The book flicks through chapters, what I mean by that is it starts at a scene of the crash and then is a scene about home and keeps changing.

About the crash, in the crash scenes Poddy, his older brother Jack and his dad are going to a sports event or something like that. Then they hit a cow and go sliding down a hill. Jack is semiconscious and his father is completely unconscious. Poddy then goes to find help and make friends with some cows. Help finally arrives in chapter 13 but Poddy does not want to leave his family and the people trying to help do not fully understand Poddy.

About at home, at home Poddy wants to be like his brother Jack but Jack does not want to turn 50 and have Poddy 49 years old still in his shadow. They do fight a lot and then Jack talks to his mum about his girlfriend and how they want to have a kid but do not want it to be like Poddy with down syndrome. Jacks girlfriends name is Jacqui.

For reading at the moment we are doing something called a literacy circle. A literacy circle is were we get assigned a job and we have to complete it as well as read up to a certain chapter The jobs you can be are: Passage Picker (My one this week), Summariser, Word Master, Discussion Director, Connector, Illustrator.

A Blank Canvas

One particularly sunny day I went to the art museum. As I slowly walk into the art museum. I can see nothing but people it was like a pool of people. I walk around the corner to see millions of people I wondered what was going on. As I jump as high as a bird flying in the sky and bend down as low as the dirt deep beneath the solid ground. I soon realise what was going on. 

When I finally get in the art museum I stand in the museum listening to two great artists deciding what their next master piece will be, a parrot, a unicorn, an elephant, a giraffe? As they decide that I wander around the corner. I can smell the fresh paint. I can see artists painting or telling the other people in the art museum about their painting or drawing and why they decided to make it. 

When I finally get back to the 2 artists who were fighting about the art piece who had decided to included it all in one. In the bottom right corner there is a pirate ship with the parrot on the captains shoulder. On the bottom left corner there is a giraffe in a forest poking its head through the trees to look at the elephant which was on in the top left corner jumping in some water puddles. Last but certainly not least a cute little unicorn jumping from cloud to cloud.

I keep walking and see there is a spot that has my name on the bottom. It meant that it was reserved for my artwork. I went with a flower without colour. Instead of colour I used shading.

My Day Of Marching

On one beautiful sunny Monday morning I wake up and get ready for the big day ahead. First I have breakfast, then I make my bed and do my room, I had a shower and got dressed. Once I had finished getting sorted I packed my bag and got in the car to go pick up my friend. You may be wondering where I was going while I was going to my marching. We did a whole day. 

As mum walked us in I could see the other 12 girls and my coaches. I could hear the girls talking about what they had done in the holidays so far. The most funny story was a couple of the girls went to Hamner Springs together and got dared to fall into the cold pool at night they did it and came out shivering. I felt super excited and nervous. I was nervous because I was scared to stuff up, I was excited because this is my first season of marching.

Once we started we learnt our positions. We then learnt our counts. My counts are - On the spot, Up 1 pace, up 1 pace, on the spot, up 1 side pace right, 4 paces to the right, 1 side pace right up 3 paces, cross through 15 paces, up 3 paces, up 1 pace, left 1 side pace. These may sound confusing but I understand them almost perfectly.

After we had learnt our positions counts and actions we had lunch. We had PIZZA! When the pizza arrived we went out to the hall to eat. I could smell the pizza and chips making me super hungry. I could hear my stomach growling like a bear coming out of hibernation telling me it was time to eat. I could feel the heat on my hands as I pick up a single slice of pizza that is as hot as a heat pump when turned on. I could see the cheese and toppings spread and melted all over the Pizza. I could taste the cheese and feel it getting stuck to the roof of my tongue. While we were eating I drank my drink I had an up and go chocolate flavour. Once we had finished our food I felt as big as an elephant.

Going Under

It was a beautiful clear sunny day and my 2 friends and I were about to take a swim in the ocean. As we get into our swim suits I start to feel excited but nervous, happy but sad, worried but fearless. It was like I was on an emotional roller coaster.  I could smell the salty water.

It was finally time to dive into the water. I touched the water with my toes to see how cold it was. To be honest with you it was actually pretty warm. So we dived in. As I dived in I felt like I was falling deep below the air surface. I was so excited to see all the amazing wildlife that I took off without my friends.

 As I went lower and lower into the water I saw sharks with jaws as big as a truck, Whales that were as long as a train, Fish as round as a drink bottle. 

I finally found what I had been looking a stingray. I touched the stingray and got stung by the stingray. I had to try get back to find the others luckily they were following me and managed to get me back to the shore. When we were back on the shore 

We walked to the life guards who said that I would be ok. I sighed in relief. We then went to get burgers, fries and ice-cream. My burger was so small it was about the size of my hand and was only about 10 cm tall. I got about 92 fries in my large pack of fries. My ice cream was about 30 cm tall from the bottom of the cone to the top of the ice cream. My ice cream was just plain vanilla so I scrapped my fries along the sides of it.

We then headed home and I went to bed. It had been a very long day.

Maths Challenge

For my maths challenge I had to create a game using fractions.

What you will need:

A copy of your own Fractions Addition Board

A dice

A counter for each person 

A friend or two to play with

 How it works is ...

add up the fractions for a score of 4 go over and you are OUT!

1. pick a counter and get a dice. You then take turns rolling the dice.

2. The number you roll you is the one on the top of the fraction equation.

3. Place your counter on the fraction you are on.

4. Add up your points

BelFeast 23rd June

On Tuesday the 23rd of June we went to BelFeast. BelFeast is run at the BCN (Belfast Community Network). Today Matua George and the servers served us up some delicious burgers. The burgers were created like this, toasted bun bottom, cheese, lettuce, patty and a toasted bun top. We also had some super yummy chips. Thank you so much servers and Matua George the food was amazing. Something you might want to know is that we dont even pay to have this food it is all for free. It is free because he is giving to others and is a nice caring human. 

Lasagne Recipe

For our maths problem solving task we had to find a recipe of something we could make in the slow cooker for 40 kids. I chose to make Lasagne because I love eating and making lasagne. My group also had to try get the lowest price my price was $68.55.  Do you enjoy eating Lasagne? 

Star Art

For art we had to make a star art. On the black paper we had to write I am a star because ..... and why we thought we are a star. My ones are, I am a star because I care for others, I am a star because I am good at maths, I am a star because I am unique, I am a star because I take risks, I am a star because I am good at colouring, I am a star because I can dance, I am a star because I can sing, I am a star because I play sports, I am a star because I am a good friend, I am a star because I am good at spelling, I am a star because I coach netball, I am a star because I am good at reading, I am a star because I am Maia.

I challenge you guys to make a star yourself. 

You will need:

- Black Paper

- Star template

- Chalk

- Pencils / Felts

- Glue stick

- Positive Attitude.

- Piece of white paper

Method:

Step 1 - Colour in your star with patterns.

Step 2 - Write why you are a star on the white piece of paper.

Step 3 - Fold your star inward on the small dotted lines. Fold out on the big line.

Step 4 - Press lightly on the star and trace around the star on the black piece of paper.

Step 5 - Write why you are a star on the black piece of paper.

Step 6 - Glue the edges of the star and put on to the paper.

Step 7 - Use a pencil to press on the edges of the star to make it stick.

Pig Hospital Entrance

For this reading task we got told to create and make a pig farm hospital for pigs that are made for heart transplants and heart valves.

Skeleton Woman

On one sunny day there was a  rock with waves crashing at the bottom there stood a grumpy father and a sweet innocent little girl. They were arguing over anything and everything. He then got super mad that he pushed her into the water and she died. She lays there floating on the water. All the fish in the lake ate her all except the skeleton. She then became the skeleton woman people think of her as. People who are usual visitors thought that the place was haunted. But one day a new person came to the lake and started fishing. After hours of nothing he finally caught something. He thought he caught a big fish but it was really the skeleton that was soon to be his wife. The skeleton was caught in his line and was dancing. He was moving so fast it looked as if she was dancing. He then got in his tent and made it really dark in hope the skeleton would disappear. When he thought she was gone he lit a candle to see a whole lot of bones clumped up outside the door blocking his escape. He jumped in fright. After he calmed down he decided to pieced the skeleton back together. Once he pieced her back together he went to bed. He laid down not being able to fall asleep. A single tear then rolled down his face. She then kissed the tear and sang a song asking to have flesh on her bones, for legs so she could dance, arms to cook, hair to be beautiful again, lips so she can speak, kiss and a stomach so she can have kids . She then laid down beside the man and falls into a deep sleep. They wake up and fall in love instantly. They then get married and have God knows how many kids. They then lived happily ever after.

Haiku

For writing I had to make 3 haiku's. I made one about Christmas because it is a special time for me seeing my family and playing games together. Another one I made is about Sunshine because the sun means fun. I thinks this because when the sun is out we are happy and can have fun. My last one is about the beach because you can have so much fun and do some fun things with your family.

Similes are sentences describing something with like or as. E.G.

Setting

Before we start I will tell you our names. These are our names, Tom, Jerry, Bob,

Milly, Lily and last but certainly not least little Jim Bob Jr.

We call ourselves The Night Thieves. So our destination is the wonderful, beautiful,

Queen's castle to steal her sparkly, shining, shimmering Jewellery.  

Story

As we speed off along the long road not stopping for anything we see a big shining red car speeding past. The car was as big and loud as a big elephant stomping. We carry on our mission to the queen's castle. Our car then breaks down and we are left to walk so we stole a car and sped off down the street. We arrived at our destination and stopped the car. We then raced as fast as our little legs could take us into her castle. We managed to get past all the guards and not get caught by any cameras or set off any alarms. It took 3 whole people to carry one necklace because they were so big. The then stacked the car and took off to their home. They enter ad leave the great big city using one drainage hole with a big mat covering it so no rain or water got in.

Back To School

So much has change in 7 weeks. Our class room looks completely different our desks are separated. We have to keep our distance in class and outdoors. Our class room looks a lot like classrooms in the USA.  We have to sanitise before we enter the room and before we leave the room. We are not allowed to share anything at all. We are only in the class rooms in our syndicate.  We are not allowed any parents in school grounds. We have set drop off zones where our parents drop us off and leave. We have patroller on each drop off zone. The patroller on each station takes the little kids to their class. If we are sick or do not feel well we have to stay home.

Remember we are all in this together. We entered it together so we will come out of it together.

I am feeling pretty good about being back at school and feel comfortable getting back into a routine with learning.

Covid 19 update

Okay so as you know we are now out of level 3 and we are now in level 2 which means we are back at school. On my sheet I said my favourite memory was reading a great book. I said how my feelings were in level 4. I was feeling a range of emotions. Did you know that Covid 19 encouraged museums to step up their digital game. I am so happy we are back at school so I do not have to stay with my whánau. What was your favourite memory please let me know in your comments. :)

Koala Facts

For a writing task we had to choose a animal and research about it. I chose a Koala because they have so many cool facts and they are one of my favourite animals. Did you know that in Australia you can hold a Koala at Creek, Gorge Wildlife park. It is the only place that you do not have to pay to hold a koala and take some photos. I hope you enjoy.

Bad Dad Chapters 3, 4, 5

Chapter 3

Frank held his fathers hand as the ambulance rushed to the hospital. He had to have his right leg amputated on. Dad was in a lot of pain but still said he would not want to miss seeing him grow up. She cried " Oh Gilbert ". The doctors set up a portable bed beside his fathers. Thy got home and found a note saying I am sorry.

Chapter 4

Why is she sorry asked Frank. She is not coming back said Gilbert. They cried and cried until they could not cry no more. Frank would not stop thinking about her and still loved her. Gilbert lost everything they track owners banded him from the track. Dad was used to being a hero but now he was more like a zero. Dad would not leave the flat and they had to pay for everything. His father had stolen a toy race car track. Big men would come in and take stuff they think will be valuable.

Chapter 5

He thought he had the best father ever. He got a job. His job was driving. Frank thought it was banger racing. He will be earning money and driving fast. He was going to try to buy a new toy race car truck. He was going to be similar to a police. Frank wanted to be told because it was TOP SECRET. He looked concerned and Frank was extremely worried about his father. He kept on making promises that he could not keep. His father told him to go to bed early so he got upset. Dad would hold his son really tight when something was wrong.

At The Beach

As I look at the humongous waves crashing against the water as it comes towards the shore. It looks like dogs racing for a basket of dog food. I walk out to the shallow water and hesitate and look at the waves that are like triple the size of me. I then slowly walk back up to the shore. I stand on a shell and scream with excruciating pain. I go to the water to wash all the sand of my feet and check for blood. Luckily there was no blood and there was only a tiny cut. I then see an ice cream truck and go running letting my beautiful long hair fly behind me as I make a run for the truck. I get a double cone with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce with 2 flakes and sprinkles on top. After I eat my ice cream I go back down to the water. The sea had calmed down a lot now so I went in and started jumping over the waves. A big wave came and bowled me over like a bowling ball knocking over a bowling pin. I  go under the water and can hardly breathe. The waves then get really strong and I am held down by the pressure of the waves. I then see some fish leading a friendly dolphin to me I get saved by the dolphin and I land on the shore.

Bad Dad

Chapter 1

Franks dad was a banger racer it is a dangerous sport cars would crash into each other. His car was called queenie. His dad was the best banger racer ever. Frank was giving everything because of his father. He really wanted to go to watch his father race. But his dad would not let him because he did not want his son to see him get hurt. People in the stands would get hurt if the cars crashed into the stand. Frank would always run to the race and sit on all the broken cars.


Chapter 2

The night if the accident something was wrong with his dads car. Dad struggled to start and control his car. Frank screamed DAD when his dads car blew up. His car rolled over and over and over. Someone crashed into his car and sent him flying. One car exploded into flames. He promised his dad would be alright but he could not keep that promise.

My Fun Drawing Maths

For my maths I did one of the challenges the challenge was to see if you could draw theses shapes without taking your pen of the paper. I did it although some of them were hard I will show you what they were supposed to look like.

Favourite Food

For my Summer Learning Journey I had to think of my favourite food and make it. I chose to do cupcakes. I chose to do chocolate flavour because I have the best moist chocolate cake recipe.

It takes 15 mins prep time and 20 mins cook time. It serves 12.

Super Moist Chocolate Cupcake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the cake:

3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp Edmonds Standard Grade Flour

1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp cocoa powder

3/4 tsp Edmonds Baking Soda

3/4 tsp Edmonds Baking Powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar

1/2 cup Chelsea White Sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup of Meadow Fresh Milk

1/4 cup of Simply Pure Canola Oil

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup boiling water

For the Icing:

150g Butter (softened)

2 cups Chelsea Icing Sugar (or Chelsea Vanilla Flavoured Icing Sugar)

2-3 Tbsp hot water

1/2 -1 tsp of vanilla essence (or flavour of your choice, optional)

Food Colouring (optional)

Method:

For Cake:

Preheat the oven to 180°C conventional or 160ºC fan-forced.
Line a 12 hole muffin tray with paper cases. Sift the dry ingredients into a large bowl, then add the sugars and stir
in. Add the egg, Meadow Fresh Milk, Simply Pure Canola Oil and vanilla then beat with a mixer until combined.
Scrape the sides of the bowl then add the boiling water and mix until just combined (the batter will be runny).
Pour the batter into a measuring cup (it’s easier and cleaner than using a spoon) and pour evenly into each paper
case until ¾ filled (don’t over fill or the mixture will overflow).
Place in the oven and bake for 20-22 minutes or until a tester inserted in the centre comes out clean.

For the icing:

Beat the Butter until smooth, pale and fluffy. Gradually add the Chelsea Icing Sugar, half a cup at a time. 
Add the vanilla essence (or other flavoured essence and/or colouring of your choice), with enough of the hot water
to make a creamy mixture, beating between each addition until fluffy. Pipe onto cooled cupcakes or spread over a
cooled cake.

Note: When adding food colouring add it a few drops at a time and make sure you mix it in otherwise you might
end up with a brighter result than you desire.

For my Technology task I had to design my own logo. I created a company name that I want my company to be called when I am older. I chose to do the same colours but light and dark. I was going to put my company name by my mouth as if I was saying it, but I decided to put it under my chin because it would fit in the space perfectly. I hope you like my design. Sir Edmund Hillary Interview

For my Summer Learning Journey I had to pretend I had an interview with Sir Edmund Hillary. I have to ask him 5 questions about his life and victory. Ok lets get started.

M:  So Sir Edmund Hillary is it ok for me to ask you a couple of questions.
SEH: Yes of course it is.

M: What was the date you got to the top of Mt Everest?
SEH: Well I got to the top of the mountain on May 29th 1953.

M: Did you have someone with you?
SEH: Yes it was a guy called Tenzing Norgay.

M: Did you ever think you would be the first person to climb Mt Everest?
SEH: No I did not.

M: How does it make you feel to be on the 5 dollar note?
SEH: It makes me feel proud that I achieved something that is very impressive.

Potato Wedges

Today I made potato wedges for lunch. 

They were extremely spicy because I added too much Cayenne pepper. 

I used Herbs, Cayenne Pepper, Potato's, Salt and pepper.

I first put all of the herbs and spices in a bowl. I then cut my potato into wedges. I then put the potato'sin a bowl and tipped in the seasoning. I then spread them on a tray they cooked for 30 mins. 

Once we ate them our mouths were on fire so I got us some juicies which is frozen juice.

People say that they are more alert than before after popping bubble wrap. It is also scientifically proven that fidgeting can help with stress just like popping bubble wrap. Your brain is wired to enjoy bubble wrap. Popping bubble wrap can make your muscles less tense. It also reduces stress and anxiety. The company that created bubble wrap recently discovered a bubble wrap that does not pop. It is called iBubble wrap. This came out in 2015. IBubble wrap is mainly used for shipping packages and protecting them when you have to move. Dont worry the pop able bubble wrap is still on the market. You can use bubble wrap for multiple things you can use it on your windshield to stop it from getting frosty 

Ferns

For my Summer Learning Journey I had to find 3 New Zealand sport names with fern in it.

The female teams are the only ones to have fern in their name.

1. Black Ferns.

The Black Ferns are the New Zealand woman's rugby team. 











2. Silver Ferns.

The Silver Ferns are the New Zealand woman's netball team.

3. White Ferns

The White Ferns are the New Zealand woman's cricket team.

 My personal favourite is the White Ferns uniform because it has a fern of different colours and the pink makes the black stand out.

Our Family Fish

Kia Ora everyone this blog post is about my family fish. 

We have 2 Angel fish one is gold, yellow and the other one is black. They like to follow each other and often fight. They both have very little tails from when they fight their tails get bitten off. 

We have 1 Gourami which is golden brown. Gourami's have 2 long tentacle like things. Our Gourami likes to hide behind the big piece of wood at the back.

2 Black Widows which usually follow each other around the tank. Black Widows are stripy fish. They are also very small.

We have 2 types of corydora and 1 fish from each type. We have 1 Emerald Corydora and 1 Pepper Corydora. Corydoras are a type of catfish.

We have 2 White Spot Pleco they can grow to the maximum size of 2.4 inches. that is quite long.

We have 1 Loach which looks like a cheetah. It is like a cheetah fish. 

We do not name our fish or else we come to attached to them and then it is extremely hard when they die and we have to get rid of them.

New Zealand

For my Summer Learning Journey I had to find 3 facts I like about New Zealand. So I made a google drawing on it. 
Here is an explanation of these facts.

This place is on The North Island of New Zealand has a place named Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. Is a 1,000-foot hill near the township Porangahau holds the Guinness World Record for longest place name with 85 characters.

3. 
There are 49 different wildlife sanctuaries spread out around New Zealand that is an incredible amount. 

4. 
There are no snakes in New Zealand which means a great place to come to if you are scared of snakes. It has also very little if any at all wild cats in the wild. 

5. 
New Zealand speaks 3 languages. Maori, Sign language and English.
